Product Description
Mischief and Mayhem is the creation of Michael and Fiona Ragg, whose passion for wine and for Burgundy in particular, inspired them to move to the region and create the company. Michael Ragg spent nearly 10 years working with leading UK wine merchant Berry Bros. & Rudd before moving with his wife Fiona, to Burgundy in spring 2003. Living in Aloxe-Corton for eleven years has given Michael and Fiona Ragg the opportunity to develop a large network of contacts and growers on the ground in Burgundy and this is key to the business. Mischief and Mayhem sources grapes from all over the Côte d’Or and the Raggs’ knowledge of the region, coupled with over a decade on the ground and in the vineyards, combine together in a business that is dedicated to producing outstanding wines from some of the world’s greatest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards. If a grower’s grapes aren’t up to scratch, they will not be used. They both visit all of the vineyards they use to check upon vine health and vineyard development throughout the season; this allows them to ensure that their wines truly reflect the terroir-specific nature that is Burgundy. They also advocate sustainable viticulture, low yields and hand harvesting. In the winery, there is only light use of oak, so as not to overpower the delicate characters of the grapes.
Bright pale straw in color with hints of gold and a water white rim. Beautifully pure, rich bouquet of lemon, pear and oatmeal with mineral, quartz, chestnut honey, shortbread and white peach notes. The palate is full, rich and focused with a firm acidic profile and layered texture. There are stone, mineral and smoke elements, and some nicely rounded citrus notes of lemon and lime zest, along with basil, sea salt, vanilla, butter and shortbread. The finish is long and full, yet still mineral and refreshing.
