Product Description
The Barons Ricasoli have occupied Brolio for the 10 centuries since they established it in 1141, and during this time they have shaped the history of the Chianti Classico territory and its wines. Ricasoli continues to give new meaning to the wine and winemaking culture. One of the four oldest family wine estates in the world; a reproduction of the Ricasoli family tree, printed in 1584, has one of the first ever references to the wines of Chianti. Florence and Siena fought over Brolio Castle in Medieval times and today Brolio still retains the character of that period. The vineyards surrounding the castle form 230 of this 1,200 hectare estate, the largest in Chianti Classico. It is situated between the villages of Gaiole and Castelnuovo Berardenga where valleys, hills, oak and chestnut woods, including 26 hectares of olive groves, all bask in the beauty. Great variety of soils and climate are found in this central part of the Chianti area. Bettino Ricasoli started his studies and experiments here when he was only twenty years old. It is now the headquarters of the modern firm, with its state of the art cellars close by. Today, Barone Ricasoli, is the fourth oldest company in the world still run by its founding family and the first in Italy in the field of wine. It is the largest estate inside the Chianti Classico appellation, possessing 250 hectares planted to vine.
