This Bird In the Hand is definitely worth two in the bush as the saying goes. But honestly, this Adelaide Hills Chardonnay consistently over-delivers and makes us marvel at how they do it. It mixes up pure stone fruit with complexed nutty oak before a creamy palate of peach that’s textured and long.

The nose shows mixed citrus peel, green apples and frangipan flowers. The palate is highly refined with a line of very vibrant acidity. Blood stained, chilled, and quite delicious. It’s murky and unfiltered and if left alone for long enough, it throws off a layer of sediment. Clean and uncomplicated; pink flowers, musk stick and curiously – star fruit. Tart and edgy, blood orange and again the sappy dryness and crunch of carambola. It’s quite delicious and extremely though unconventionally appealing.

This is Anton’s kitchen sink to simplify things. There is a pleasant rusticity to this from the nose through the finish…not dirty and certainly not uber-cleaned up. This is a table wine meant to be pleasurable and nothing more. That said it over delivers a great deal as it is more than just simplicity, with texture, lifted aromatics and a yin/yang between savory and sweet.

What does it taste like? Just like Sauvignon Blanc, albeit a very rich, intense reduction of Sauvignon Blanc. Chaunsa mango, ripe grapefruit, heaps of grass and a bouquet of white flowers crammed into a bottle. The palate is weighty but the acid brighens things up a lot.

NOT a Chardonnay for Chardonnay lovers, but they probably wouldn’t be buying this kind of thing anyway. It’s a drink for drinkers. Tricky one to put into words, as are a lot of these sorts of wines. I enjoy it and would like to think that most others would too.

This is the Appellation wine from Anton. He selects barrels that are a bit more approachable and have produced less dense wines to blend together creating 'Village of Tiers.' The four unique sites in the Adelaide Hills each have their own personality but together they sing a four part harmony.

When does “White + Red ≠ Pink?” When Anton Von Klopper says so! The 'Vino Rosso' moniker is a bit misleading as the wine is made from 60% white varieties with the remainder being Sangiovese and Merlot. This is rosé from another galaxy!

Talk about some wacky & crazy $h!t! Late picked Sauvignon Blanc (with just a bit of the noblest of rot). Yank the head off of an old and very neutral barrel. Take these 'noble' grape bunches (whole bunch) and toss them gently into the beckoning barrel. And let it go, carbonic and wild style.

Whichever way you approach it, this is seriously good booze. If you want a Pinot Noir to drink, yes this ticks all the right boxes. If you want a Pinot Noir that will engage you, maybe make you think, look at what's in the glass repeatedly, then this is your wine.
