Product Description
Lemberg Wine Estate is located in the heart of scenic Tulbagh Valley, surrounded by the views of the majestic Witzenberg and Winterhoek mountains. It lies 120 km northeast of Cape Town, and 5 km south of historic Tulbagh. Winemaker, Janey Muller, established Lemberg in 1978. It became known for its Sauvignon Blanc, its Harslevelu and for being the smallest wine estate in the Western Cape. Janey Muller reportedly named the estate after her husband’s place of birth, Lemberg, historically part of the Austrian empire, Poland (Lwow), the Soviet Union, and now Ukraine (Lviv). New German owners, Klaus and Uschi Schindler took over the farm in 1994. They expanded by building a new wine cellar and the rondavel guest house, and planting new vines. They had a cellar where small quantities of Estate Pinot Noir, Pinotage, Syrah and a Sauvignon Blanc were produced. Since they purchased the farm in 2001, Suzette and Klaus have been fortunate to share knowledge from one of South Africa’s iconic winemakers, Jan Boland Coetzee. We’ve also enlarged and renovated the farm, with new cellars, wine tasting facilities, and additional plantings. Lemberg’s Mission is to continually improve as a boutique vineyard of recognized excellence, via a handcrafted approach to high quality wine making. With total dedication, we live a dream so eloquently stated by Robert Mondavi, and look forward to sharing this passion with you.
A dry white wine which is produced in miniscule volumes. Spiced mandarin, citrus cream and sherbet spritz on the bouquet. The palate is initially quite reserved, but with air the wine comes alive: apricot and honey notes meld with almond paste, sweet green herb, toasted pine nut and quince flavours, helping to sculpt one of the Cape’s most unique and alluring wines. A masterpiece of vision and terroir working in perfect harmony.
