John Duval is one of the world’s best known winemakers and comes from a family that boasts four generations of South Australian vignerons. For over 100 years our family supplied grapes to South Australia’s best winemakers. Knowledge of the vineyard handed down through five generations, allied with a 30 year career at the pinnacle of Australian winemaking, are the foundations of John Duval Wines. Each wine made from fruit sourced exclusively from exceptional old Barossa vineyards, our distinctive style defined by elegance and structure. John Duval is a legendary name. As only the third winemaker to be entrusted with the making of Australia’s most famous wine, Grange, John worked for Penfolds for 28 years (including 16 years as chief winemaker) until his departure in 2002. Despite his legendary status, John is a quiet, unassuming man who just happens to be one of the world’s great winemakers. Utilising old vine Barossa Valley fruit, John has created stunning wines within his range. You will find his wines reflect the terroir of the Barossa, knowing the quality of the fruit grown on this vineyard, John combines these grapes with selected sites across the Barossa, drawing on his years of experiences to create a stunning portfolio of multi vineyard wines.
Deep purple red in colour. The bouquet shows lifted notes of violets, dark berries and plum, enhanced by cedary-spicy French oak. The palate is full bodied and tightly packed with an array of concentrated dark fruits. Succulent, balanced and long on the finish.
