Product Description
Scotsman John Riddoch founded what is now Wynns Coonawarra Estate in the late 19th century. He planted his first vines in 1891 and by 1896 had completed the estate’s famous three gabled winery, an image that is reflected on the Wynns Coonawarra Estate labels to this day. It wasn’t until 1951 however, that two Melbourne wine merchants, Samuel and David Wynn, purchased Riddoch’s original vineyards and renamed the winery. Today, Wynns Coonawarra Estate is the region’s single largest vineyard holder, with the best and most established vineyards in the district. Wynns Coonawarra Estate was the first winery to be established in the Coonawarra, by John Riddoch in 1896. This year’s Wynns Coonawarra Estate Cabernet Shiraz Merlot is a fine example of the style, from an excellent vintage. Wynns Cabernet Shiraz Merlot is a rich and complex wine with enhanced softness derived from the blending of these three classic red grape varieties. Its soft fruit plus judicious oak handling has created a wine perfect for current drinking.
Dark opaque hue with bright crimson/purple rim. The bouquet shows the wine has a lifted perfumed nose redolent of raspberries and red plums with hints of spice and cinnamon. It shows the generous fruit aromas of Shiraz and some of the lifted floral notes of Cabernet and Merlot. The palate is a generous wine showing ripe cassis, bright plums and brambly fruits. The blend of varieties melds to produce a supple and seamless palate profile. It has fine grained, well integrated tannins and a lingering finish that is well supported by creamy, stylish oak.
