Product Description
The Tiki is a talisman to the Maori people of New Zealand. It has been regarded as a powerful good luck charm since ancient times. Its tilted head symbolizes thinking; the hand is strength; the mouth is communication; the heart love and the loins fertility. The Tiki is a strong symbol of goodwill and a favoured treasure to give to a friend or a revered person. We at Tiki also think he’s a cheeky and fun looking chap so we have chosen him as a symbol of New Zealand; its beautiful landscape and its ‘hard case’, loveable people. Kiwis (as New Zealanders are known) pride themselves in their hospitality and kindness; sense of fun and fairness; adaptability and outdoor lifestyle – attributes which make them well-received around the world. Our family has been living and farming in New Zealand for over 800 years. My wife Sue and I discovered the Waiata vineyard site in 2004 and purchased the property with the help of some financiers that could see the potential of the land. From there we went on to purchase and develop a further three vineyards in Marlborough and have since added a number of contract growers with a conscience and ethical business practices to the family business. At Tiki we believe great wine is created in the vineyard and is an expression of place, people and time. With this in mind we selected Marlborough in New Zealand as the region where the world best Sauvignon Blancs have been crafted over the last few decades. We then searched Marlborough for high altitude terroir that would produce wines of elegance and distinction. We selected three vineyards in the upper reaches of the famous Wairau Valley and spent years nurturing these vineyards, and building a team of passionate people to produce low yielding grapes of outstanding quality. Tiki is a reflection of place, people and time – an embodiment of the spirit and purity of New Zealand.
A wine of intense colour and vibrant hue. Aromas of leather and forest floor greet the nose and are enhanced by dark cherry, plum and vanila oak. The palate has elegant fine-grained tannins and incredible texture that supports a lovely earthy, truffle-like complexity. A perfect balance of fruit and oak in a complex, weighty style reflecting the very ripe fruit from an exceptional vintage.
