Product Description
Created by Simon Weston and Charles Smith, co-founders of Pontoon, a ‘liquid research and development laboratory’ that selects ingredients from producers from around the world and blends these into high quality drinks. Simon Weston, comments: “Our namesake was an innovator too – Major Walter Clopton Wingfield pioneered lawn tennis in the 1870’s and changed the face of the British summer and we’d settle for nothing less. The Wingfield is distinctly different. It’s a modern gin aperitif blended to have a unique signature. It tastes like a garden at dusk -clean and fresh with complex layers of quintessential summer flavours. The “contemporary” aperitif is made from a secret recipe comprising a small batch London dry gin, cucumber, pink grapefruit, elderflower, combined with other fruits and spices.
Clear transparent in colour. The bouquet shows pink grapefruit juice and zest, cucumber, and faint honeydew melon, turmeric and green apple, black pepper and faint floral notes. More faint turmeric spice. When mixed with soda, cucumber and cucumber skin flavours become dominant with citrus notes present. Lingering grapefruit citric acidity. Best appreciated mixed with soda, Wingfield produces a refreshing lightly (very lightly) alcoholic long drink suited to a summer’s afternoon. A complex blend of citrus, elderflower, cumber and spices, its cucumber and mild grapefruit that shine.
