The climate of north-eastern Tasmania is certainly cool with many similarities to some of the great winemaking regions of Europe. The Tamar Ridge vineyard was established by Josef Chromy in 1994 when a decision to establish a vineyard in the West Tamar region was made. In its first two years in the market, Tamar Ridge Wines have made some major strides in establishing its reputation as a producer of premium wines. A string of wine show successes and glowing reviews from the Australian wine media provide ample reinforcement that the winemaking team are getting it right.
Bright, deep, crimson red with deeper hues. Ripe, powerful fruit aromas of black cherry with suggestions of raspberry and blackberry and a hint of white pepper. These are backed up by some more savoury, gamey aromas alongside nicely integrated oak. This is a powerful wine with mouthfilling ripe fruit flavours of black cherry and blackberry and a touch of liquorice. These ripe flavours fill the front and mid-palate while the finish shows firm, fine tannins that are in-turn softened by the level of fruit weight. These flavours all combine to provide a palate with excellent length and persistence of flavour.
