Product Description
Recognised as pioneers of wine in the area, the Paul Cluver estate is a family-owned, family-run wine business located in the cool-climate Elgin Valley, approximately 70km south-east of Cape Town. The property has been in ownership of the Cluver Family since 1896. Winemaker Andries Burger has a wonderful connection with the vineyards and his ability to coax the very best from the estate’s various aromatic grape varietals has helped to raise the profile of Elgin as well as the potential for South African wine as a whole. There is a shimmering “gently-gently” about the way Andries nurtures the vines. He also has an uncanny ability to give the modern wine drinker exactly what they want! delicate freshness, integrated tannins and true varietal terroir exist in every bottle of Cluver’s wonderful wines. Elegant and refined, these are modern day legends of South African wine. Paul Cluver Wines are focused on producing wines that reflect the uniqueness of the cool-climate Elgin terroir. The family is proud to have pioneered the Elgin appellation and for being seen as a leader in the sustainable farming.
Lots of buttered toast / brioche on the bouquet with some citrus aspects too. Tangerine fruit and citrus blossom fragrances are apparent, with hints of vanilla pod and almond flakes. These characteristics follow through onto the palate. The fine, fresh acidity is natural, and adds poise and focus to the wine.
