Product Description
The name is an allusion to d’Artagnan, one of Gascony’s most famous sons, and the origin of the spirits is no less noble: they are sourced by Marc Darroze, one of the very top names among Armagnac producers. Traditional continuous distillation in Armagnac stills ensures preservation of the traditional Armagnac aromas, however requires a longer barrel ageing period to bring out the complex and elegant bouquet. The XO is aged for at least 8 years in casks made from french oak from the local forests of Gascony and Limousin. The Bas-Armagnac vineyards are situated in the west heartland of Gascony, on fawn coloured sandy alluvial soils that produce a delicate and fruity Armagnac.
Light gold in colour. The bouquet is attractive but complex with fresh apple notes, rich yet floral. This blend possesses a delicacy and grace that is very rare at this level. Good depth and roundness on the palate offers an initial toffee sweetness infused with cinnamon, coffee and vanilla notes which leads to the characteristic savoury Armagnac finish.
