Product Description
Morgan Winery is the shared vision of owners Dan and Donna Lee. It was established in 1982 with the goal of producing rich, complex wines with varietal fruit as their focus. Attention to detail, personal involvement and a dedication to the highest standards from vine to glass are the foundation of Morgan’s high quality wines. The Santa Lucia Highlands appellation of Monterey, from which they source most of their Chardonnay and Pinot Noir fruit, is one of the finest in California for Burgundian varietals. The combination of cool temperatures, significant winds, and low rainfall stress the vines to the point where the typical growing season is 4-5 weeks longer than most California wine regions. The result is mature and intense flavors, typically apple and pear in Chardonnay, black cherry in Pinot Noir, fresh-cut lime in Pinot Gris, and a spicy blackberry note in Syrah. Winemaker Gianni Abate started working in the wine industry in the San Joaquin Valley where he was raised by a wine drinking Italian family. Working for companies such as Bronco, Delicato, and Woodbridge he laid a good foundation for his winemaking career. Gianni’s love for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay brought him to the Central Coast in 2002. With 19 successful vintages behind them, Dan and Donna Lee are now taking the winery to the next level of quality. With the purchase of 65 acres in the prestigious Santa Lucia Highlands appellation, 38 acres have been planted with a variety of different clonal selections of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. With more than thirty years experience, Dan Lee and the Morgan label have been synonymous with artisan, vineyard-centric wines from the Santa Lucia Highlands and Monterey. Dan’s conscientious and innovative farming regimens allied with traditional, “minimalist” winemaking techniques craft wines of balance, elegance and distinction.
Light yellow. Smoky herb and lemon scents gain depth with air, picking up melon and nectarine notes. Fresh citrus and honeydew flavors show good energy and a slightly dry edge. Finishes with bright mineral lift and a touch of bitter fruit pit.
