La Maison Fontaine® Absinthe is distilled in the world’s oldest absinthe stills – handcrafted by our distiller in accordance with more than 100 years of tradition. Our distillery actually produced absinthe prior to the French absinthe ban in 1915. Pontarlier is the Absinthe Capital of the world, a place that sits beautifully amongst the Jura Mountains and has 200 years of Absinthe heritage. At one point, more than 20 commercial absinthe distilleries were located in Pontarlier, the largest of them being the very successful Pernod Fils. But over 200 families in the area used to distill their own Absinthe. Even today you may be lucky enough to be offered to sample a local “homebrew” at someone’s house or restaurant. With its tradition, knowledge, passion and availability of the finest natural herbs needed to produce an ultra premium Absinthe – in particular the Pontarlier-grown Grande Absinthe – there really is only one place to distill La Maison Fontaine® Absinthe. La Maison Fontaine® has been masterfully refined using 15 natural herbs. Some we’re keeping secret, others we’re happy to shout about – notably, our world-renowned Pontarlier-grown Grande Absinthe, which, together with green anise and fennel, is the “holy trinity” of any real absinthe.
The combination of milk chocolate and wormwood is intriguing and perplexing in equal measure. Aromas of candied fennel seeds offer a second unusual combination to this complex and peculiar nose.
