Product Description
Although the Yonezawa Family has been brewing since 1856, they did not start distilling until 1917. In the build-up to the celebration of 100 years of spirit production, the company decided to replace the old stills with new copper twin pot-stills made by the Scottish firm Forsthy’s. The new facility has been designed to produce Japanese Single Malt Whisky as well as other spirits and has been named The Kaikyo Distillery after the famous Akashi-Kaikyo bridge that lies in front of the distillery. 135 East Gin marries Oriental and Western traditions in a harmonious manner both in the gin and on the label which shows early 20th Century people in Hyogo, on the 135 Meridian embracing Western attire whilst retaining their national identity. This Gin embraces a traditional London Dry Gin with a discernibly Japanese approach incorporating Cedar Wood, Shiso Leaf, Chrysanthemum, Sansho Pepper and of course Yuzu in its botanicals.
The bouquet is characterized by subtle notes of Yuzu, followed by nice ginger and spice aroma. The palate shows woody notes with hints of pine, scent of citrus, fragrant. The palate shows juniper berry, very pleasant spicy aftertaste laden with complexity and richness, conferred by earthy fragrance to be used as a base for such a complex class of spirit with a finish of different citrus fruits.
