Goldeneye is Duckhorn’s Pinot Noir specialist winery located in the heart of the Anderson Valley along the migratory pathway of the common Goldeneye duck. In 1990, after nearly fifteen years of making highly regarded Bordeaux style wines, Dan and Margaret Duckhorn decided to pursue their growing passion for Pinot Noir. Their vision for Goldeneye was to produce a distinctively California Pinot Noir of equal stature to their acclaimed Duckhorn Vineyards Merlot. The Duckhorns approached this goal with the same care and attention to detail for which they had become respected in the Napa Valley. Over the next six years, they experimented with fruit from the Russian River, Sonoma, Carneros and Anderson Valley appellations before narrowing their exploration to Mendocino’s Anderson Valley. With cool ocean fogs, clay soil, and long, mild days, the Anderson Valley appellation has all the ingredients for producing world-class Pinot Noir. Goldeneye cultivates extracted, elegant fruit. The goal is a wine that expresses the depth and character of the Anderson Valley, fusing concentration with elegance and varietal typicity.
Our flagship wine begins with inviting aromas of raspberry puree and fresh oatmeal cookies. The entry offers an intriguing hint of smoke and peppercorns that carry though to a mid-palate filled with silky tannins and cherry and raspberry flavors. On the finish, oak-inspired overtones of coffee and baking spice mingle with leather and fruit bringing this wine to a long, satisfying conclusion.
