Product Description
The original vineyard was established by Wellington engineer Rex Brooke-Taylor who took the name Framingham from his ancestral home town near Norwich, England. Our initial releases were produced using other wineries’ facilities. First planted in 1981 with what is now amongst the oldest Riesling vines in Marlborough, our Wairau Valley vineyard is based on warm, well drained stony soils. We take a low impact approach to vineyard management with a lot of hand work and a strong environmental focus avoiding systemic chemicals and planting flowers to encourage biodiversity. Accredited as a sustainable vineyard and winery under the Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand program, we are currently in conversion to organic viticulture – further minimising our impact on the land and bringing things back into balance. Our Framingham range has grown with a strong tradition of winemaking for balance, texture and complexity. Today we are a family-owned Sogrape company.
Pale rose gold in colour. Mellow aromatics, suggestive of toffee apple, spice, pastry and custard. Generous “Apple Strudel”-like flavours of baked apple, quince, dough and crème caramel. Intense, rich, slightly oily palate with excellent weight, silky texture and good mouthfeel culminating in a creamy, leesy finish.
