Product Description
The original vineyard was established by Wellington engineer Rex Brooke-Taylor who took the name Framingham from his ancestral home town near Norwich, England. Our initial releases were produced using other wineries’ facilities. First planted in 1981 with what is now amongst the oldest Riesling vines in Marlborough, our Wairau Valley vineyard is based on warm, well drained stony soils. We take a low impact approach to vineyard management with a lot of hand work and a strong environmental focus avoiding systemic chemicals and planting flowers to encourage biodiversity. Accredited as a sustainable vineyard and winery under the Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand program, we are currently in conversion to organic viticulture – further minimising our impact on the land and bringing things back into balance. Our Framingham range has grown with a strong tradition of winemaking for balance, texture and complexity. Today we are a family-owned Sogrape company.
Brilliant, light straw-yellow colour with pale green-gold hues. This has an elegantly concentrate and intense bouquet with complex aromas of greengages, nectarines and green stonefruits entwined with spicy herbs and subtle, savoury, nutty and smoky barrel-ferment elements. The aromatics grow in density and firmness with aeration. The palate has a tight core of savoury and spicy green stone-fruits melded with herb and nutty, smoky layers. This has concentration and drive, and the wine flows along a very fine-textured line with integrated acidity. The palate has richness and a near creaminess to the mouthfeel and carries to a finish that blooms in complexing spice and oak detail. This is a complex, soft and finely concentrated, oak-influenced Sauvignon Blanc.
