To start from the very beginning we go back all the way to 1792, when their first master distiller was born, Karel Lodewijk Fillers. Born into his Belgium based family farm, it was not until Karel was older that his interest grew in Genever. His passion grew so much so that his love for Genever passed on to the rest of his family, which continues to be in their line of work to this very day. Filliers Distillery is situated in a small rural village called Bachte-Maria-Leerne, in Flanders, Belgium. The company has been distilling Gin since 1880. As traditional producers of quality jenever, their family has been producing spirits for more than five generations! Fillers Dry Gin 28 was formulated in 1928 and uses 28 botanicals as well as the central juniper. Creating a traditional gin in 1928 was purely a matter of logic and the company was simply perpetuating a piece of its history. With already had great knowledge in the use of juniper berries to create genebras the Filliers, used this experience to the production of gin. It was based on his original recipe and a lot of patience, it could achieve perfection in blend of 28 botanicals used. The result turned out to be a product with a guaranteed place of honor in the list of the best gin.
The bouquet shows there is a strong citrus aroma supported by coriander, with a backbone of juniper. Fresh notes of cardamom sweetness can also be noted if you’re nosing neat. Remarkably soft, fruity and floral. The floral character comes from the most Flemish ingredient: hop cones. Other botanicals are lavender blossom, orange blossom, seeds of coriander, angelica, gentian root, ginger, cardamom, calamus and fresh citrus fruits. It’s a relatively classic, understated gin but not because it doesn’t deliver.
