Product Description
Filipa Pato is already the fifth generation of the renowned Portuguese winemaker family to be connected with winegrowing around the wine of the region of origin Bairrada. After her studies of chemistry, she absolves internships in Bordeaux, Argentina and Australia which give her new impulses. When Filipa Pato returned to Portugal in 2001, she decides to go her own way. Here she could start to vinify small cuvées from different parcels and regions, in the process improving her knowledge of different microclimates and terroirs. She has quickly established a reputation as one of the brightest and best of the new young bunch of Portuguese winemakers. Most of her wine is sold to the export market and her wines exemplify the best of Portuguese style with a modern approach to structure and balance. Therefore, she begins to attend to the cultivation of grapes much more meticulously than her colleagues. She studies the location of vineyards to understand the soil and microclimate better. Thus, the young oenologist can gradually wrest the whole potential from the traditional type of red wine, “Baga.” She succeeds in creating modern wines without “make-up” as she calls it.
Deep cherry red in colour. Lovely pure Baga aromas of red fruit, wild scrubland and a light perfume, overlaid with a rocky, mineral character – very elegant. Rich in fruit with just a light influence of oak. Well structured as much by freshness as by tannin. Real purity and excellent length. Sweet-fruited, juicy, long finish.
