Product Description
Noted winemaker Don LaBorde guides the Decoy winemaking program. With experience spanning two continents and numerous winegrowing regions, Don has established himself as a master of multiple grape varieties. At the same time, because of Duckhorn Wine Company’s unique structure, Decoy also benefits from the talent and expertise of our four other winemakers, each of whom has a unique area of specialization. Duckhorn Vineyards Winemaker Renee Ary contributes to the crafting of Decoy’s Bordeaux-varietal wines. Paraduxx Winemaker David Marchesi works with Don on the Decoy Zinfandel. Migration Winemaker Neil Bernardi helps guide the Decoy Chardonnay and collaborates with Don and Goldeneye Winemaker Michael Fay on the Decoy Pinot Noir. Like all the grapes used to make wines in the Duckhorn Wine Company portfolio, fruit for the Decoy program comes from a mix of Estate vineyards and top grower vineyards. It all starts with the vineyards, and our Sonoma County focus, whether it’s Pinot and Chardonnay from Carneros, Zinfandel from Dry Creek Valley or Bordeaux varieties from our own Ridgeline Vineyard in Alexander Valley, Sonoma County offers a range of world-class grapes. To benefit from the diversity of Decoy’s great fruit sources. There is an incredible amount of care that goes into these wines, if you want to achieve small-lot quality in your wines, you have to apply same small-lot attention to detail, including hand-sorting, the use of the finest coopers and French oak, and a commitment to artful blending.
This is a lush and inviting expression of Sonoma County Zinfandel with aromas of dark plum, nutmeg and cardamom, as well as French oak-inspired hints of vanilla. On the palate, bright red fruit flavors are balanced by well-integrated acidity, all leading to a soft, silky-tannined finish.
