Betz is a family run winery in Woodinville, Washington, headed up by Bob Betz MW. Bob is our consulting winemaker, but he is much more than that. He is our founder, patriarch and guiding light. His pursuit of winemaking began in the early 1970’s when he and Cathy criss-crossed European vineyards to better understand the why and how of crafting fine wine. His philosophy is pretty simple: focus on what the vineyards have provided. Start with the highest quality fruit you can, treat it vigorously when necessary, gently most of the time, and stay out of its way but watch it closely. Allow the wines to develop slowly, and make sure they provide exceptional pleasure. Since our first vintage in 1997 we’ve had a single minded goal of crafting compelling wines with individual character that are approachable and ageworthy, and which showcase Washington as a distinguished wine region of the world. By carving out specific vineyard blocks and being meticulous in the vineyard and cellar we are able to achieve the quality we aspire to. As importantly over the years our winery culture has become a way of life in which everyone – our growers, winery team and customers are family. Today, Betz family Winery is headed by our two families, both committed to be true to our heritage, our family members, and true to what Betz winery embodies: wines of dimension and pleasure, wines that allow the character of Washington to shine through. The Clos de Betz reflects the uninterrupted warmth that screams Merlot. It displays a deep ruby hue and truly exciting aromatics on the bouquet. Black cherries, damsons and cocoa beans lead, while leather, tobacco, sage and truffle reveal themselves over time. The palate is full and yet fresh, enhanced by the highest percentage ever of Petit Verdot in this blend. Dried thyme and pencil lead nuances add stunning complexity on the finish.
