Product Description
Beautiful Avondale is home to some of the finest wines in South Africa. For over 300 years the vineyards have produced premium grapes – today Avondale is driven by the desire to produce the best wine in the Cape. Avondale wines exhibit a tremendous sense of place. From the fynbos clad slopes of the Klein Drakenstein mountains to the cooling banks of the Berg River comes fruit that is typically reflective of its mediterranean heritage. No one makes wine like we do. At Avondale we’re getting back to nature – but we are using 21st century science, technology and research in the process. It started a few years ago when we made a simple choice: because wine is a natural (and delicious) product, producing it shouldn’t harm the environment in any way. After all, we want the Avondale farm to be here long after we’ve gone, creating the same delicious wine. And we believe the best way to do that is to make it a sustainable business, one that always works in harmony with the earth. Every step of the way, a holistic, systems-based approach and fine attention to detail has ensured that today, Avondale makes extraordinary wines approved by Mother Nature.
The word Anima refers to the vital life force or soul. Our ethos “Terra Est Vita”- Soil is Life – is our acknowledgement that for us, soul animates everything on earth, from the minerals, through plants and animals to humans. We’ve called our Chenin Blanc Anima, because the lively minerals of Avondale’s soils give this wine its own delicious, spirited character and extraordinary finesse. Anima has a nose that develops intriguingly in the glass. Winter melon, pineapple, lime and a hint of honey confirm the elegance and fullness of this softly wooded, supple Chenin Blanc. The palate is dense with fresh fruit flavours of gooseberry, quince and peach, all harmonising superbly with the soulful minerality that gives this wine its name.
