Product Description
Located in Central Otago, the world’s southernmost winemaking region, Akarua was established in 1996 by long-time Otago icon Sir Clifford Skeggs and first vintage three years later. The region is mountainous, rising to over 2,000 metres and the vines are planted amidst spectacular alpine scenery. Our philosophy is to reflect the special and unique characters of the Bannockburn sub-region’s terroir, and capture the qualities of each vintage so that they are truly reflected in each bottle that you taste. Jacqueline Kemp (Winemaker) has been fortunate to have trained under superb mentors and alongside great teams from both the ‘Old World’ and the ‘New World’ wines practices her past and has an understanding and appreciation of quality wines. Jacqueline believes that all great wine starts with a lot of hard work in the vineyard to ensure the highest quality grapes are produced. In the winery it is important to place emphasis on minimal handling of the grapes, juice, and wine, to enable the essence of the vineyard’s terroir and surroundings to be captured in the final bottle.
It has a vibrant pink/ red hue and its aroma shows hints of strawberry as well as complex nutty and yeasty notes. The palate has a strong Pinot Noir influence, a lovely creamy mid palate and it carries to a long, savoury, brut finish.
