Product Description
Our story begins with our ancient and legendary vineyard – the site where the very first quality grapes were planted for fine winemaking in Argentina. One of the first owners of our vineyards, Governor Tiburcio Benegas, was a pioneer Argentine winegrower. Convinced that the very best wines could be produced in Argentina’s climate and soils, Governor Benegas purchased this vineyard. He then brought the very first French grapevines to Argentina in 1883, along with the most advanced winemaking technology of the times. Governor Benegas stopped at nothing to promote the fine wines of Argentina to the world, crossing the Andes on a mule and sailing by ship to Bordeaux, among many other adventures. He and his family built their own brand and saw it win worldwide acclaim, as the wine‘s subsequent introduction into international markets caused the first great wave of demand for Argentinean wines. Benegas’ investment in the Argentine wine industry is legendary, and his pioneering efforts helped lead Argentina towards its position today as the fourth largest producer of wine in the world. Eric Anesi, Owner, moved to Mendoza, Argentina at age 27 in order to learn the wine business from the ground up – literally. He took ground and water samples from potential vineyard sites; picked grapes alongside other workers, who thought him crazy for putting in such hard labor for “fun”; committed himself to speaking fluent Spanish; and, for the past several years, has devoured any and all information and practical experience on growing the best grapes and making the best wine in Argentina. Gauchezco symbolizes the true essence of the traditional gaucho culture from Argentina.
